Fishing is taking off out of Ludington. Had a nice box of Browns and Kings. Quite a few boats fishing 100-125ft of water 55's-50's. All of the fish we caught had bait except one small Brown. The other Browns and Kings had mag sized alewives in them. Best baits on the beach were F-13 Rapalas, Super Slim Mixed Veggie. Turned west and headed out to deeper water and took a King on half core with Double Orange Crush, diver back 70ft with SOG took a King, Moonshine Mag Yellow Submarine took 2 bites, and a Mag Daisy Cutter took the biggest King just off the bottom. We lost a king on a diver with a Dark Gr. Spin Doctor and Gr Fly 90 back and heard reports on the radio of other boats hitting Kings on white and green Spin doctors. All and all a great day for a shake down cruise on the Hattrick
Spring Kings
and Browns put up a nice tussle. Have to chase them back and forth from
side to side of the boat before netting them.

Finally fishing again. New motor is in and still running . Fishing has been tough around the entire lake this past week. Some days are good then the fish are gone. Bait is being marked in southern Lake MI but not many fish are being pulled. Heard of some fish out of Ludington puking up mag sized alewives--this is great news. When the bait shows up so do the Kings. In fact they caught a nice one on a Smithwick Rogue that burned off 600+ ft of line before they turned it. Fished today south of the pier heads and at 6:30 caught 2 Lakers on Super Slim Starburst, no more bites until 9:30 and then riggers 5-7 down in 9-14ft of water were steady. Orange and Red Flounder Pounders in regular size New from Moonshine this year caught Browns and Lakers. When cleaning the fish they were packed with gobies, and those flounder pounders imitated them pretty good. A couple fish came on count down fire tiger rapalas and f-11 clowns but spoons on the boards and riggers were the baits of choice. 2.7-3.0kts was my best speed, took a few fish slower but as soon as I would get the speed back up the lines would start poppin.

Sorry about no report for a week, for 2 reasons. With the (1) weather nobody has been fishing and (2) I put in a new motor last year when I pulled the boat and had it 7 minutes on plane and it blew up. Should be in today or tomorrow and I will be fishing this weekend. WARNING: As a fellow fisherperson pointed out in the forum there is a lot of debris from the condo project next to Copeyan Park boat launch. The problem is they are unleashing wood (trees) up to 20+ inches in diameter into PM Lake and some are neutrally buoyant, floating just under the surface. The Marinas are having a heck of a time with this wood clogging the slips. When the wind switches it just blows it out into the lake and it flows out into Lake MI. City managers and the police and USCG have been called and they have come down to look into the situation. Hopefully they do something about this and not ignore it because some investors are putting money into the economy of Ludington. Fishermen put more money year after year into this town then a condo unit that isn't selling space. Just be careful, spring is bad enough with the run-off and the debris that flushes into the Gr. Lakes.

Fishing continues to be spotty. If you happen to land on a good day the fish are there. The day after the 2 bites 1 fish, smelt happened to move in and the fishing was good. Browns, Lake Trout and Steelhead were the normal fish caught, but the occasional king is being picked up along the coast. The water is starting to warm up quickly, but just not there yet. A couple more weeks and fishing should be much better if this weather continues. Spoon bites out of Ludington are getting better, but the best catches are still on the cold weather programs---body baits. Best are F-11 & 13 Rapalas and Countdowns of the same size in Black/Gold, Clown, Fire Tiger, Blue/Silver. Spoon bites most common on DW Goldilocks, Super Slim Mixed Veggie Glow, Moonshine Agent Orange and Killer Bee.

Fish are not around one day, but here the next. Good news is fishing is getting more consistent!!
Nice box of browns 1 1/2lbs to 9 1/2lbs

Shakedown trip for the RAPTOR. Water was beautiful, had 43-44 degree water all the way to the State Park, a little color to it, but hardly any fish. 2 bites, first one came on Moonshines NEW Brass Lemon Half Moon Series 7ft down on a rigger. Missed that one because it swam away with the spoon, rather quickly. 2nd bite on a copper Killer Bee, nice little brown. Spoke to several other boats and everyone had a very tough day, many no bites no fish. Felt good to get on the water again. Won't be long before the water warms up and the kings are here. Took a spin out to the 30 line and the water was 41-42 degrees.
